fucking amazing.

i discovered this over at radical cross stitch and it's unbelievable. it almost made me want to cry, that's how awesome it is.

and here's noelle mason's site.

EDIT: for those who perhaps don't know, it's a cross stitch. that's a form of tapestry. you know, needle pulling thread.

Do you have any idea how long it took me to work out why you thought this was so awesome?

Of course I could of just clicked on one of the links you highlight and worked it out in an instant but I wanted to do it by myself.

Obviously I'm unbelivably thick as it took so long, but now I see it I can understand why it's so bloody amazing.

Don't know if it wanted to make me cry - the event it portrays did, but not this - however I am in awe at the skill and sheer bloody patience behind it.

If only they were around when the magna carta was being done, bet they could of really funked it up.

you see? it's not just about what we make, but what we see too... that means you thought about an artwork for at least 2 minutes. that's pretty good. that's almost up there with porn!

and, i have to say, rob, that i'm shocked at how long it took you. aren't the images of columbine burned into your memory? or is that the difference in our ages?

anyway, yes. the craftsmanship is fantastic. for me, it's the choice of subject. especially in the age of instant information/imagery, that a tapestry can somehow subvert both CCTV and the hype around an event by grounding it in a slow process, makes me shiver with goodness.

You silly bugger - of course I knew what the image was of, it was why you thought it was so cool that got me confused ...

As for porn, you are mistaking me for Billy or Andy - at least that's what I'll say in public, ha!

I'm with Rob on this... I was looking at the picture (knowing what it was from) and wondering why you had this reaction. If i hadn't read the word "stitch" there i probably would still be wondering what it is.

that being said, it's pretty amazing. i've always had an appreciation for the skill and patience that goes into tapestries like this, especially intricate patterned Persian/oriental rugs... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-KY5D-74YM

are you guys BOTH telling me that the last image there didn't twig? you couldn't see stitches? and that the words 'radical cross stitch' didn't mean anything?

hmmm... perhaps i'm more self-centred than i thought, but i'm gobsmacked.
