socialism doesn't work in practice, because the reality of the situation is that humans are inherently greedy and want what they want.
and then capitalism fucks out with increasing frequency because humans are inherently greedy and the privileged will always contain the power.
and, quite frankly, all the other options are just too grim to think about.

Both the theories behind capitalism and communism are good - its when humans and their egos and greed genes get involved that it all goes wrong.
But as I've said before, the good thing about this situation is that it might [might!] help people get some perspective back in their life - understand the things that really matter - and whilst it'll all be forgotten in the blink of an eye when things improve, for a time we might see the best of humanity rise up.
I live in hope.

the irony or something in all of this is that humans invented both capitalism and socialism (and add organised religion to that mix too). which means that, like bias in fabric, it is inherently flawed.

ha! cupcake now! yeah, i'm ok - just going through a mild patch of nihilism while focusing on politics. it will pass.
Ignore campbell, theories are useless if they don't embody the real context. Capitalism is more honest because it acknowledges the atavism that communism et al deny (primarily to empower the leaders).
That said, once this is realised one can stop worrying about politics and start focussing on humanity - as wise Angus does with the cupcake strategy.
