2 things i love about the melbourne international arts festival

...so far:

1. this image.

it's their new branding identity* and i have to say that it's fucking brilliant.
all i can think of is anish kapoor when i see it, but it's still brilliant.

2. i'll be going to see patti smith perform on sunday 12th october!

for those who don't know, this is particularly special to me as i had a ticket to see her at shepherd's bush empire in london on the 20th october last year and had to leave the country 4 days beforehand. i still have the unused ticket in my journal as a heartbreaking reminder. i can cross that regret off my list now. eep!

*i pinched it from their site. i hope they don't mind.

Think you might have Nella joining you on that one...

Very jealous on the Patti Smith front. She's a force of nature.

Every year I look forward to the Melbourne Festival.

Every year I am disappointed. Way to many obscure dance pieces and plays performed in foreign languages for me.

This year however is a vintage year.

Patti Smith in concert, on film and two exhibitions!

Philip Glass and Patti performing a tribute to Allen Ginsberg.

Philip Glass's piece for Leonard Cohen.

Not to mention DJ Spooky's musical collage about Antartica.

Phew!

charlie - you coulda had my ticket in london!!

anika - welcome lady!! and yes, her and dunja are both going ga-ga.

northern - force of nature.. ooh, that's such a great way to describe here. no wonder i think she's amazing.

stan - here here. ok, so it has been the sydney festival, as opposed to the melbourne festival disappointment, but you're right. up until now - overpriced 'meh'. this year, well-priced 'oh yeah!'.
